Security forces on May 26 arrested an active extortionist cadre of the proscribed outfit UNLF (P), identified as Heisnam Jiban Singh (51) of Thanga Heisnam Leikai, presently residing at Checkon Tribal Market, from Lamlong area, a statement by Manipur Police said on Wednesday.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a mobile phone from his possession. Based on his disclosure, a subsequent search operation was conducted at Langol area, leading to the recovery of 18 weaving wooden machines suspected to be extorted property, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, and three live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
In a separate operation on the same day, Manipur Police detained two individuals from Pallel Maning Leikai in Pallel area along with a huge quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and DIC liquor. The detainees have been identified as Moirangthem Tomba Singh (26) and Naorem Bembem Devi (51).
The seized items included 488 bottles of different IMFL brands of 375 ml each, 11 bottles of McDowell’s liquor of 750 ml each, and 397 litres of DIC liquor.
Meanwhile, security forces continued search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across various districts of the state.
Authorities also ensured the movement of 269 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 under strict security arrangements. Security convoys were provided in sensitive stretches to ensure the free and safe movement of vehicles.
Additionally, a total of 114 nakas and checkpoints were set up across hill and valley districts of Manipur as part of intensified security measures.
