Agartala, May 29, 2026: A tense atmosphere prevailed in Madanpur village under the Ramkrishnanagar subdivision of Sribhumi district after a severed cow’s head was discovered atop a temple donation box on Friday morning, triggering widespread outrage and concern among local residents.
Sources informed, villagers first noticed the disturbing sight early in the morning and immediately informed the police. Acting promptly on the information, personnel from the Ramkrishnanagar Police Station reached the spot at around 10 AM and launched an investigation into the incident. The police later recovered the severed cow’s head along with other waste materials from the top of the donation box.
The incident has created strong reactions in the area due to its sensitive nature. While a section of the local population suspects that the act may have been carried out deliberately by miscreants with the intention of disturbing communal harmony, others believe that a wild animal might have dragged the remains to the spot from elsewhere. Some residents pointed out that sacrificial waste is often disposed of improperly in nearby areas instead of being buried properly, which may have attracted stray or wild animals.
However, leaders and members of local Hindu organizations have expressed deep concern over the matter. They alleged that slaughtering a cow in a Hindu-majority locality, allegedly in violation of existing government guidelines, was unacceptable and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Members of the local Hindu community have urged the administration to conduct a fair and thorough investigation to identify the culprits and ensure exemplary punishment if any deliberate act is established.
Meanwhile, police officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway and all possible angles are being examined to ascertain the exact circumstances behind the incident.
