Itanagar, June 1: The administration of Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district has imposed an immediate ban on the transport and purchase of live pigs and pork products after African Swine Fever (ASF) was confirmed in Assam’s Tinsukia region. District animal husbandry and veterinary officer O Moyong issued an advisory stating that the restrictions will remain in force for one month to prevent the virus from spreading into the district.

The directive requires pig farmers, livestock traders, and residents to comply strictly with the preventive measures. Authorities warned that violations would be treated with seriousness and could result in punitive action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009.

ASF, a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, has raised concern across the Northeast, with veterinary officials emphasizing the importance of vigilance and adherence to biosecurity practices to protect livestock and livelihoods.
