Agartala, August 29, 2025: BJP MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the opposition, accusing them of stalling parliamentary proceedings and engaging in “political drama” instead of constructive debate.

Addressing a press conference after returning from the recently concluded monsoon session of Parliament on Thursday evening, Deb said, “The opposition sleeps awake. It is impossible to wake them up. They have no real issue, so they disrupt Parliament unnecessarily.”

The BJP leader was reacting to the opposition uproar over two contentious bills — one on the special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar and another on the disqualification of ministers if jailed for more than 30 days.

Deb argued that the opposition’s protests were misplaced. “They are demanding discussions in Parliament on the decisions of the Election Commission. The simple question is — which central minister will answer on behalf of an autonomous body? The Election Commission even invited them for discussions. Instead of going there, they staged a street drama in Delhi,” he said.

Taking a swipe at their agitation, he remarked, “They have become ill while walking on two legs. These are the same people who shout about fighting for the people.”

Despite the disruptions, Deb pointed out that the government managed to pass important bills in the House. “The opposition wanted a debate on Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister gave them a sharp reply — he smeared vermilion on their bodies. Their uproar failed to stop the government from working in public interest,” he added.

On the upcoming Bihar elections, Deb came down heavily on the Congress-RJD alliance and the participation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin in their rally. “The presence of Stalin at Rahul and Tejashwi’s rally shows their political bankruptcy. Stalin has made indecent remarks about Biharis, yet Rahul and Tejashwi marched with him. By doing so, they insulted the people of Bihar,” he said.

Deb recalled Bihar’s historic role in resisting the Emergency under Jagjivan Ram and expressed confidence that the state’s voters would once again rally behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The people of Bihar have faith in Narendra Modi. This will be proven again in the assembly elections,” he asserted.
