Agartala, May 15, 2026: Tripura’s Animal Resource Development (ARD), Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Friday appealed to the people of the state to adopt fuel conservation measures and avoid unnecessary use of petrol and diesel in view of the evolving global situation affecting oil supplies.
Speaking on the issue, the Minister said that people should not panic or assume that there is a shortage of fuel at present. However, he emphasized the importance of conservation and responsible consumption.
“We should not harbor the misconception that we are facing a shortage. We should bear in mind that we must practice conservation,” Das said.
The Minister specifically urged the public to reduce dependence on conventional fuel-based vehicles and shift towards electric vehicles and public transport wherever possible.
“My specific appeal today is directed toward the general public. We should focus on electric vehicles or other modes of commuting that lessen the use of petrol and diesel,” he stated.

Highlighting his personal initiative toward fuel conservation, Das informed that he had already discontinued the use of escort vehicles.
“As of yesterday, I have already given up my escort vehicles with an aim to conserve fuel,” he said.
Referring to the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, the Minister noted that disruptions linked to oil movement through the Strait of Hormuz could impact global fuel supplies.
“The reason is—and there is no cause for panic—that while a situation is unfolding globally involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, it has led to certain disruptions, specifically regarding oil supplies at the Strait of Hormuz,” he remarked.
Calling for restraint in fuel usage, the Minister appealed to citizens to use fuel only for essential purposes and avoid wastage.
“Let us utilize fuel only to the extent that it is absolutely essential for our needs; let us refrain from any unnecessary usage. If at all possible, we should leave our private vehicles at home and opt for public transportation, trains, and similar alternatives,” Das added.
