Assam’s Infant Mortality Rate Drops From 49 To 29 In Two Decades: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the state’s Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has declined significantly over the past two decades, falling from 49 in 2004 to 29 in 2024.

In a post on X, he attributed the improvement to strengthened maternal and child healthcare infrastructure, better access to healthcare services, and various welfare schemes aimed at reducing infant deaths. Describing the progress as encouraging, the Chief Minister said continued efforts are needed to further improve health outcomes in the state.
